Elida's Blog

About the Author

Hello! I’m Elida — creative soul, recently former public accountant, and mama of two.

In 2023, after just over a decade in public practice accounting, I started this blog while learning how to balance the structure and rigour of my career with the fluidity and flow my creativity craved.

I was about to return to work from my second maternity leave when I realized that my inner creative was no longer satisfied with simply being remembered and occasionally humoured by my increasingly task-centric bullet journal.

And that inner voice was getting loud. So, it was time to get creative!

I started this blog to satisfy my love of writing when business reports weren’t quite cutting it, and to motivate myself along my creative journey when I was staring down the barrel of an intensive workweek. Since then, it’s grown into a space to help others do the same!

Here we reclaim our energy, reconnect with ourselves, and make space for creativity so that we can develop a creative practice in which we find joy and meaning amidst the busyness of a full life.

My plan worked, by the way: This blog was so fulfilling that it truly sustained me while I navigated life in public practice accounting after a pandemic and two maternity leaves.

But that wasn’t the end of the story. I had started this venture thinking that the inner voice could be placated, and we would just continue to go about our business: accounting by day, writing by night. Balancing the books and the creative life.

I was wrong.

In 2025, I started to better understand where that creative drive was really coming from — it was an authentic part of me that was seeking more alignment and more meaning. So after a lot of reflection, a little courage, and with a real sense of gratitude, I stepped away from my career as a public accountant and into the work I’ve always loved most: writing.

At the core of the blog is this: The world needs more happy creatives.

In embracing our creativity, we start to recognize and appreciate our own weird and wonderful humanness. In doing so, we can also appreciate the weird and wonderful humanness of others. This is a blog about creativity, absolutely — but it’s also a blog about compassion, empathy, kindness, and connection.

Speaking of connection, I’m so glad you’re here! If you’re feeling that pull to embrace your creativity in however big or small a way, there’s something here for you.

And if you want to stay connected, I write a letter each month with a little creative encouragement, reflections, journal prompts, and a round-up of blog posts from the month. I like to think of them as little nudges to stay in touch with your creativity, even when life gets busy!

P.S. Call me nosey, but I’m always so curious to read everyone’s first posts — but they’re not always easy to find! If you want to see mine, and peek at the original premise of the blog, here it is: A New Venture
