The Rapid Log · 05
I mentioned in my last newsletter that my attention has turned toward fiction.
When I mention that I’m a writer, I’m often asked what kind of novel I’m writing, and although that wasn’t the kind of writing I meant, it always stirs a secret longing. I could only ignore it for so long before curiosity got the best of me.
As with most things creative, I decided that dipping a gentle, curious, pressure-free toe into the waters of storytelling would be the most fruitful way to go. So far, it has not disappointed.
I’ve not committed to a single story yet, although it’s tempting. Instead, I’ve been enjoying exploring ideas and stretching my imagination a little bit with creative writing prompts.
The prompts that I’m least excited about have led to the most surprising ideas — a story for another day.
One of the ideas I had was entirely blog-related, and that’s what this Rapid Log is about.
Back when I was trying to bring some logic and structure to the blog, I mentally organized everything into these four pillars:

Then I thought, why not give them cute little images? After experimenting, I found I was drawn most to nature and garden imagery, and I loved the little line art icons:
- A sprouting plant fueled by the soil, water and sun
- A plant in hand, our connection with our own humanity
- The watering can, full of curated garden flowers
- The flower garden as the sun — the fuel for life
And perhaps my favourite, the book with flowers blooming from its pages, which aligns perfectly with the motif of writing our own creative chapters.
In a magical book, of course.
Admittedly, no, I didn’t draw them myself — I curated them from Canva. I found that more often than not, directing myself to create art for a piece of writing is a surefire way to never let the post see the light of day.
It was practicing creative writing that sparked the idea to write a short, immersive e-mail series in the second-person narrative, where you’re introduced to your magical book and taken on a journey through the four inner gardens to help you get started filling it.
It’s meant to be a bit silly and to help stretch your imagination — especially if it’s been a while since you’ve had a chance to read anything immersive. And of course, it’s meant to inject a little magic into your daily life.
After each narrative is a round-up of a few posts from the blog for deeper exploration into the topic of the day.
If you’re curious to step into it, you’re welcome to begin here: A Whimsical Return to Your Creative Self
I look forward to seeing you there!
And if you do step into the gardens, I’d love to know what you find there.
Thanks for reading!
