Who is the guide for?
Although I learned everything I know about navigating busy seasons over more than a decade working in public accounting, you don’t have to be a bean counter to get something from this guide. I wrote it for anyone who encounters demanding seasons of work.
Whether you’re a corporate professional, entrepreneur, business owner, or creator, if you deal with demanding deadlines, put on events, or have highly seasonal work, there’s something in here for you.
Why I made the guide
I spent over a decade navigating busy seasons in public accounting, accepting cyclical burnout as par for the course along the way. But eventually, those same busy seasons were happening while I began navigating motherhood and a shifting creative identity.
Suddenly, busy seasons became less about grit, and more about how much of me could still show up and feel present in life outside of work.
So I started asking questions, looking at myself more deeply and my workplace more systematically. In doing so, I started coming up with strategies that actually helped — not to eliminate burnout, but to reduce it enough that it felt manageable in the greater context of my life.
Throughout my career, the human side of the workplace experience has always taken centre stage with a particular focus on training, mentorship, and mental health initiatives. That interest echoes through this ebook — once I’d discovered what worked for me, I just had to share it.
Wait — isn’t there also a free Busy Season Survival Guide on your blog?
Yes! I wrote the five-part mini-series, The Busy Season Survival Guide, for Debit This, Create That in 2025 as a precursor to the ebook. It outlines the framework and introduces many core ideas.
The ebook deepens the free mini-series and connects it to other important concepts I’ve written about on the blog (such as those on work-life balance and types of rest). In addition to being a more cohesive resource, the ebook brings the material to life through worksheets, planning tools, and a voice that’s meant to walk with you as you work through your own busy seasons.
(It’s also adorned with my own digital illustrations, inspired by the many doodles I’ve done in the margins of my meeting notes!)
The free mini-series is also geared toward readers who want to connect more deeply with their creativity while working through their own busy seasons, whereas the ebook focuses on the busy season itself, whether creative connection is your focus or not.
So, if you’re not ready for the full guide, feel free to visit the blog’s free series to get a feel for the framework and the major concepts included in the book!
